EcomTrackr vs Meta Ad Library: source research or a research workspace?

Meta Ad Library is the direct starting point for researching ads on Meta. A research tool earns its place by reducing the work around that source: finding context, organizing a shortlist and returning to useful ideas.

AT A GLANCE

Start with Meta Ad Library when you need to verify a known advertiser at the source. Consider EcomTrackr when you want to review brand context and organize available ad records with filters and private ratings. Use both together; EcomTrackr is not Meta’s official archive.

Know which source you are using

Meta distinguishes its public library from its API. The API covers political or issue ads over a longer archive period and ads delivered in the EU or UK over a different period. Do not assume that API access reproduces every current commercial ad worldwide.

What neither source tells you by itself

A visible creative is not an advertiser’s profit-and-loss statement. To calculate ROAS you need revenue attributed to the same ad-spend window. To calculate profit you also need product, fulfillment, payment and other costs. Those inputs do not follow from the fact that an ad is active.

Keep three columns in your research notes: observed fact, interpretation and next test. “Uses a customer story” is observable. “The audience needs reassurance” is an interpretation. “Test a customer-story opener against a product demonstration” is an actionable experiment.

A practical routine using both

Begin with the advertiser’s own store and confirm which Facebook page it uses. Look at several creatives before deciding a pattern is important. A collection of near-identical edits is weaker evidence of different concepts than it first appears.

  • Record the source URL, advertiser, date checked and product.
  • Separate the first attention-grabbing moment from the promise, proof and offer.
  • Use format, language and category to narrow a large result set.
  • Rate relevance to your brief, not imagined profitability.
  • Recheck the source before presenting an old reference to your team.

Check the source before buying more workflow

If you research one known brand occasionally, a direct source check and a simple notes document may be enough. A paid research workspace becomes useful when repeated filtering and review save meaningful team time.

EcomTrackr does not currently guarantee a complete global archive, permanent video preservation or live ROAS for competitors. Test whether the existing records and workflow help with your actual brief before choosing a plan.

Common questions

Can EcomTrackr replace Meta Ad Library as the source?

No. Meta is the source for its own ad records. EcomTrackr adds research organization and available brand context; source verification remains part of a good workflow.

Is an ad’s library ID enough to archive its video?

No. An ID identifies a record. It does not preserve the media bytes or guarantee future access. A long-term archive needs a separate retention approach and appropriate rights.
